Our desert trekking Morocco starts in the morning in Marrakech. After the luggage is stowed, the journey begins in the direction of South Morocco to Zagora, about 370 km away. Through the majestic Atlas mountains and over the famous Tizi n’Tichka mountain pass our way leads us over the UNESCO world cultural heritage Ait Ben Haddou and the city Ouarzazate, the “gate of the south” and along the picturesque Draa valley, with its rustic clay settlements, the barren boulder formations and the enchanting palm groves, up to Zagora. On the way we always find time to stretch our feet, to eat something and to let the atmosphere of the surroundings have an effect on us. In Zagora we stay in a family hotel with a wonderful garden. There is still time for an exploration of the surroundings (together with the tour guide), a shower and to do some errands. In the evening we get our dinner served in the garden and discuss the coming days.

After breakfast we start into the vastness of the Sahara. First we drive to the desert village Mhamid, about 100 km away. The road ends in the former caravan town and we prepare our caravan. After we have stowed everything, the adventure begins. On foot and with the support of our caravan and our desert guides, we make our way towards the Sahara. After about 3 hours of desert hiking (breaks as needed), we set up our camp. After we have erected the tents, gathered some firewood and fed the camels, we have a typical tea and lunch. Afterwards there is enough time for activities like washing, exploring the area or a little nap. In the evening we enjoy the sunset and arrive at the camp. We use the young night for a get-together at the campfire and a delicious dinner.

After breakfast we stow away our luggage and spend about 4 hours hiking in the desert and then set up camp (individual breaks). After our tea and lunch, there is always time for our own activities (washing, showering, exploring, naps, etc.). there is always the possibility to explore the special features of the surroundings and to search for a very special picture motif. At sunset we will meet at the campfire. Day after day we dive further into the infinity of the desert and the simplicity of being.

On the 8th day we reach our fixed nomad camp. After five days we meet other people again and move into our nomad tents. Equipped with beds, electric light, sockets, doors, windows and water from the tap, we come closer to the “normal” world.

After our morning routine we review the last days together, pack our things and make our way back to Mhamid in the off-road vehicle. From Mhamid the way leads back to Zagora. Around noon we move into our rooms in a small family-run hotel and have lunch. The middle class hotel is simple and clean and offers the possibility to swim a few rounds in the pool. Our guide comes from the area and gives us the opportunity to explore the hidden secrets of the city, such as the almost forgotten Kasbah Amezrou, which is still inhabited today. This is an insider tip that is almost exclusively known to the locals and whose history has been passed down from generation to generation. After a walk through the surrounding palm grove we return to our hotel in the evening.

After an extensive breakfast we return to Marrakech. You have the possibility to have us take you to the airport or the train station or to explore the city on your own. If you want to spend a few more days in Marrakech, you have the possibility to contact me  directly
